Leyton Orient Football Team Container Conversation

Looking after the youth team is a priority for the club and to improve their present youth facilities resulted in a project to provide an onsite gym, changing room and office at the current training ground. The limited space on-site was overcome by using shipping containers with a design and build by Capital UK to provide a solution.

Firstly, a site visit was arranged to establish the best possible location for the containers and which size would best fit the area and design consisting of a 40ft gym, 10ft of office space and a 40ft of changing room with toilets and showers.

A High Cube giving a 9ft 6” ceiling height gave the best solution for the gym which was insulated and the walls and ceiling lined with white washable melamine, installation of vandal-proof windows and a personnel door. Then the installation of the air conditioning followed which served to heat and cool the unit depending on the season and finished off with vinyl flooring. This was delivered on-site ready for the gym equipment to be installed.

The office for the training team positioned to overlook the football pitches was constructed from a converted 10ft container.

The shower and changing room were constructed from a converted 40ft container also lined and insulated with white washable melamine, with high-level frosted windows for privacy and fitted with automatic lighting sensors. 60ft of benching was fitted to provide seating for 2 teams. A section at the end of the container was converted into the facility of showers and toilets. This container was placed behind the main building and to blend in with the existing workshop was sprayed in the same colour.

This container conversion not only provided a self-sufficient solution for the youth team but could be picked up and moved to a different site if the club needed to relocate from the existing training ground at any time in the future.
