Students arrive at London East Alternative Provision at various stages of their secondary education, often due to disruptions at their previous schools caused by ill health, behavioral issues, or other factors. Many of them come with a diminished sense of self-worth. To foster their creative potential and broaden their musical knowledge, the school has established a recording studio. This facility aims to guide students toward making better life choices and achieving future success.
We created this unique studio by cutting a 40ft high cube into two sections—one 25ft and the other 15ft—forming an L-shape to fit a specific area of the playground. Our trusted crane company carefully positioned these sections over a sports hall to place them correctly. Following this, we completed the internal fit-out, added extra insulation for noise reduction, and installed bifold doors and a decking area to facilitate outdoor performances. For security, we added roller shutters to protect the recording equipment.
With the music container now fully operational and ready for student use, the client requested additional constructions. We built two 10ft by 8ft pods to attach to either end of the unit, along with several small interview pods for private conversations with the students.
